West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov Medical University residents are frontliner of the fight against COVID-19

In Aktobe oblast, today there are 3 infectious diseases hospitals where patients with confirmed cases of coronavirus infection and 1 hospital with people in close contact with confirmed cases are receiving treatment.

Infectious disease residents Ayaganova Gulnur and Mahash Adilbek have been residency at the department of infectious diseases since 2019.

Like all residents, they were attracted to work in an infectious diseases hospital from the moment of the first cases of coronavirus infection in the region and to this day continue to work in hospital where patients with Coronavirus infection are treated.

Given the high contagiousness of the infection, being in direct contact with patients with confirmed cases, doctors, nursing staff are forced to stay at work, unable to see their loved ones.

For the second month, resident Adilbek, according to the schedule, has been on duty. For him, work at the forefront is a great opportunity to gain experience in the his specialty. His wife is waiting for him at home, who is also a pediatrician, works at the PHC level. Indeed, despite the difficult situation in all the world and in the country, the number of child patients and adults does not decrease, many need to receive medical care at the PHC stage.

“The most difficult thing in the work is that patients with confirmed cases of coronavirus infection doubt the reliability of the results of CVI tests, since often they have no complaints about well-being, but the findings are confirmed the infection. In these cases, we talk about with patients the coronavirus infection occurs both in asymptomatic, mild and moderate to severe forms, especially dangerous in people with an unfavorable comorbid form, in the elderly. In asymptomatic and mild cases, even if patients do not suffer, they are active agents of infection, therefore it is important to isolate and monitor these patients,” says Gulnur resident.

Despite the busy schedule and the need to monitor and treat patients with various clinical findings of coronavirus infection, young specialists treat quarantined patients. And, it is an invaluable experience for residents.
