II Republican Microsurgical Forum: Best Practices. Great opportunities
The II Microsurgical Forum of Kazakhstan took place at the university. As part of this large-scale event attended by future microsurgeons, a scientific and practical conference was organized, where participants presented informative reports on their research work, including students from the medical universities of Astana and Karagandy.
A cadaverous master class was also held, demonstrating the formation of fibular and radial flaps with a vascular pedicle. Additionally, at the Olympiad, future microsurgeons showcased their skills in performing microvascular anastomoses on vessels with a diameter of less than 1 mm on experimental animals.
Over the three-day forum, Sapargali Rakhmanov, Associate Professor of the Department of Normal and Topographic Anatomy at the University and head of the Microsurgery Club, along with Alexander Smolyankin, a pediatric endovascular surgeon at the “Private Clinic Almaty” medical center in Almaty, demonstrated practical skills and shared advanced domestic surgical experiences.
According to Zhandos Kadyrov, the coordinator of the microsurgery club at the University of Zhandos Kadyrov, in 2021, at the initiative of students from the West Kazakhstan Medical University named after Marat Ospanov, a scientific and practical club of reconstructive microsurgery was created for the first time in the country at this educational institution. Following the club members’ ideas, the I Microsurgical Forum of Kazakhstan was organized at the university last year, in 2022.
This year, 40 future microsurgeons participated in the annual event. In general, this forum provided an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the students.
At the end of the forum, participants were awarded certificates on behalf of the University Rector, Asset Kaliev, and the head of the microsurgery club, Sapargali Rakhmanov.
