University Clinic for practice-oriented training
In 2001, the Medical Center of the NAO «ZKMU named after Marat Ospanov” (formerly known as Regional clinical Hospital No. 2) was transformed into a university clinic, where students and residents have a unique opportunity to combine theoretical training and real medical practice. This provides future doctors with a unique opportunity to interact directly with patients and gain real experience in the field of medicine.
During the last academic year, the University Clinic has taken numerous steps to improve the conditions for all participants: patients, visitors, students, residents and faculty. The introduction of innovative technologies included the opening of an electrophysiological laboratory, video broadcasting of operating rooms, high-speed Internet, outpatient surgery, and preparation for the opening of Hepatobiliary and Diabetic Foot Centers, providing students with a wide range of modern medical technologies and creating a continuous learning environment, in accordance with the latest achievements in medical science.
With the transformation of practice-oriented training, it became necessary to create a multidisciplinary hospital. Additional profilization of the bed fund and the transfer of the relevant departments to the Medical Center has been carried out. At the moment, the bed fund is 289 beds, including 279 for specialized care in 12 profiles and 10 for high-tech medical services to the adult population (cardiology, cardiac surgery, transplantation). One of the key aspects of the practice-oriented approach is the close interaction of students and residents with experienced practitioners. Students not only receive a theoretical basis at lectures, but also directly participate in medical procedures, consultations on the diagnosis and treatment of patients under the guidance of experienced specialists.
The University Clinic has become a center of modern medical technologies in the field of oncology, cardiology, cardiac surgery and hematology for the adult population. It provides access to a well-developed clinical and laboratory base for a quick and accurate diagnosis. The medical center successfully implements inpatient replacement technologies (82 beds), self-supporting beds (25), and also serves the outpatient department. The annual circulation of the population exceeds 12 thousand people, while more than 10 thousand cases are treated, which is an indicator of active medical activity. The experience of working in a university clinic is enriched not only by clinical cases, but also by participation in real medical research. Students and residents have the opportunity to actively participate in clinical research, which contributes to the development of their scientific competencies and critical thinking. The University Clinic is also actively introducing the concept of education into the treatment process. This includes training of patients and their families, assistance in maintaining health after discharge, and the development of individual rehabilitation programs.
The University clinic has 8 clinical departments, including Oncology, Internal Diseases No. 2, Neurology, clinical and laboratory diagnostics, Radiology, ambulance and emergency care, anesthesiology-resuscitation and otorhinolaryngology. The total number of classrooms has increased to 30, and the daily attendance of students at the Medical Center ranges from over 670-700 people.
In the near future, the university clinic plans to further profile the bed fund, including the opening of arrhythmological beds and preparation for the creation of the Center, expansion of neurosurgical beds for neurointervention, preparatory measures for performing complex maxillofacial operations, as well as the creation of an oncorehabilitation department with an expansion of the bed fund to 20 (instead of 4) and updated equipment, thanks to the funds of the investment holding “Samruk-Kazyna”.
Taking into account the increase in profilization and expansion of the bed fund, the construction of an extension of a one-story building has begun, which will provide additional 10 study rooms for departments and a direct entrance to the Medical Center.
Thus, the University clinic of the Medical Center ensures the availability of high-quality medical care to the population, provides advanced technologies and creates ideal conditions for practice-oriented training, stimulates scientific thinking, teaches effective interaction with patients and forms competent and responsible specialists in the field of medicine.
