Results of the year: Rector’s report for 2023 took place

West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov Medical University has 66 years of glorious history. These are more than 30 thousand graduates – the best doctors in the country. Currently, 7,200 students from 8 countries study at the university. The structure includes 4 dean’s offices and 6 faculties, 47 departments, 3 academic buildings, 5 dormitories and 3 university clinics.

This academic year, the university enrolled 2,441 new students, including bachelors, masters, doctoral students and residents. Grants for 2023-2024 were received by 293 undergraduate students, 284 residents, 9 master’s students and 29 doctoral students, which is almost 2 times higher than last year.

The university is actively developing, introducing new educational programs and striving for innovation. Important events were the introduction of the continuous integrated medical education (СIMЕ) program and the opening of new training programs.

For comfortable accommodation of students, it is planned to build a new dormitory for 600 places, the start of work is scheduled for June 2024. The university also received in trust the children’s simulation center for maternal and child health in the city of Aktobe, where students and residents of all faculties can develop their practical skills on modern simulators. Improving the educational process includes video broadcasts from operating rooms, interactive whiteboards, Internet in dormitories and the opening of a Coworking center.

English language courses for university employees allowed them to improve their language proficiency, which was confirmed by the admission of 20 employees to doctoral studies.

The university is actively developing fundamental science and strives to integrate into the international medical community. Over the past year, the first issue of the West Kazakhstan Medical Journal in English was published. Our students showed good results throughout the year and participated in various events. We took part in regional and republican Olympiads and also showed ourselves creatively.

Summing up the results of the past year, there are achievements of our university in clinical activities. The main achievement of the university was passing National accreditation with receiving category I, confirming the high standard of treatment. New treatment programs have been introduced, additions to the license for maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery and medical rehabilitation have been received. Funding was received to open an oncology rehabilitation department.

The University is collaborating with the National Association “Primary Healthcare”, which will lead to the transformation of the Family Medicine Clinic into a “Center of Best Practices”. Thanks to the assistance of the Public Fund “Kazakhstan Khalkyna”, mobile complexes were obtained to provide diagnostic services to rural residents.

The university continues to strive for high standards of education and contributes to the future of healthcare in its region and throughout the country.
