Beauty Planet Group’s tree planting initiatives under the SDG
Global warming, exacerbated by greenhouse gas emissions, especially the rise in carbon dioxide levels, has become a pressing global challenge. Its impacts, including rapid snowmelt, floods, storms, and increased incidence of infectious diseases, are widely felt. In response, numerous grassroots organizations worldwide are taking voluntary, non-profit actions to combat global warming.
One such impactful initiative, supported by the United Nations and its Development Programme (UNDP) across nations, is the ambitious goal of planting 1 trillion trees. Through our collaboration with the UNDP’s Plant for the Planet initiative, the Beautiful Planet Group has launched its first tree planting endeavor in Aktobe.
This action is in line with SDG 11 «Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable», specifically subparagraph 11.7 «By 2030, ensure universal access to safe, accessible and inclusive green spaces and public places, especially for women and children, older persons and persons with disabilities».
Thanks to the initiative of Professor of the Department of Natural Sciences Dr. Amin Tamaddon and generous donations, totaling $500, 120 pine trees were procured from Russia for planting in forest areas requiring restoration. This initial effort, in partnership with the current manager of the Orman Forest Park in Aktobe, successfully planted the first batch of trees. We aim to continue this initiative weekly, envisioning a greener Aktobe, mitigating carbon dioxide levels, and enhancing the well-being of its residents.
University representatives also took an active part in this event? Among them – vice-rector for clinical work Mussin N.M., head of the department for scientific work Baspakova A.M., teacher of the department of foreign languages Zhilispaeva K.R., doctoral students Zhylkibekova A., Ablakimova N., Zhusupova Zh., Tleumagambetova B., Boshanov Zh. and others. All participants came with their families and children. It was the children who planted the trees, the adults only prepared the planting site and provided watering.
Pine trees, known for their dust-absorbing properties and evergreen nature, annually sequester carbon dioxide. Enhancing vegetation cover in forested areas presents a viable solution to combating global warming.
We call upon all institutions and groups, both locally and globally, to support and join us in this noble cause. Together, we can make Aktobe a city abundant with trees, benefiting both the environment and its inhabitants. Moreover, it is extremely important to involve children in this program in order to raise a generation that will take care of the environment.
