CESS Conference
Senior lecturer of the department of «Social and Humanitarian Disciplines», 2 year PhD student by specialty «History» Kumyspaev Samat took part in the International Conference of Central Eurasian Studies Society/CESS. The aim of the conference is to discuss social, political and cultural processes in the Central Asian states.
CESS conferences have been held since 2000 in North American universities and in a regional format in Central Eurasian universities. This annual event has become a platform for communication and exchange of views for scholars and specialists from all over the world dealing with the past and present of Central Asia.
The conference heard reports from over 450 scholars from a multitude of countries, including the USA, Canada, Central Asia, Europe, China, and India. The keynote speaker was Professor Sarah Cameron of the University of Maryland, a renowned expert on the history of Soviet Kazakhstan.
Samat Kumyspayev made a presentation on «Making sense of the memory of victims of political repression in the context of decolonization processes in Kazakhstan».
