Important areas of SDG

On 06.01.2025, as part of an initiative to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the staff of the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Medicine collect paper for recycling. This activity is implemented in accordance with SDG principles 12 «Responsible Consumption and Production» and 13 «Combating Climate Change».

In order to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and to raise environmental awareness among the staff and students of the department, paper collection points were organized at the department from September to December 2024, where staff and students could deposit used paper, old documents and other paper products.

Results:

Total weight of collected waste paper: 72kg.

Number of involved participants: faculty members of the department, technical staff and students.

Handed over for recycling to FE «Junusov».

The collected waste paper will be transferred to the specialized paper recycling plant ‘Karina’ in Almaty, which saved resources and reduced the carbon footprint associated with the production of new paper.

Recycling 72kg of paper allowed:

– Save 1.2 trees.

– Reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 115.2kg.

– Save 1,872 litres of water.

This initiative shows that even small actions can make a significant contribution to achieving sustainable development. Further smooth paper collection in the department is planned, as well as the development of a system of regular waste paper collection in the department.
