Training on oncological laboratory diagnostics in the framework of strategic partnership with PUMS

In the framework of strategic partnership with the Poznan University of Medical Sciences from June 24 to July 16 training course entitled “Pathology department activities for clinical practice – part 2.

Pathology Clinical Practice Guidelines. Pathology report for proper therapy.

Clinical case analysis” was held in accordance with the task “2B2) Involvement of partnering University faculty to conduct lectures and workshops at all levels of education of specialists in “Oncology: oncological laboratory diagnostics” of the Terms of Reference. In connection with the global coronavirus pandemic the lectures were held online on Microsoft Teams platform. The lectures were delivered by PUMS professors – Paweł Kurzawa and Dariusz Izycki.

The lectures covered the issues of structure and organization of work at pathology department, work with surgical specimens, principles of cancer biology, drug development and therapy, diagnosis of benign and malignant breast lesions with and without immunohistochemistry, cases reports were discussed (breast cancer, colon cancer, ovarian cancer). The training also covered the diagnosis based on cytology in Breast, thyroid or lungs, cervix, vulva, uterus and vagina pathology and use of additional stains to reach the diagnosis, Pathology of ovary and the difficult gynecology cases in daily practice. Selected Selected GI problems in pathology of stomach, neuroendocrine tumors histochemical, immunohistochemical and molecular techniques used in hematopathology were also considered.
