The state and prospects of development of organ donation and transplantation coordination were discussed

Nazgul Gilgeldina, Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Transplantation Coordination of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired a meeting on posthumous donation in the Aktobe region. The teaching staff and students took part in it. The main topic of discussion was the state and prospects for the development of organ donation and transplant coordination in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It should be noted that the first transplantation operations in Aktobe began in 2014. Over 10 years, surgeons performed 77 kidney transplants and 13 liver transplants to Aktobe residents, and 9 people were saved by removing an organ from a cadaverous donor. The last such operation took place in 2018.

To date, there are more than 300 people on the waiting list for liver and kidney transplants in Aktobe region. In total, 4,103 patients are registered in the database of those waiting for a donor organ in the republic, 102 of them are children.
