Online-conversation devoted to the 1150th anniversary of the great scholar and philosopher Abu Nasr al-Farabi
On May, 20, senior teacher Dyoma E.V. and teacher of the department of physical education Pak T.V. conducted an online conversation with students of 224 A and 224 B groups of the faculty of General Medicine and the groups of sports development for the winter Presidential multiathlon through the Zoom communication platform.
The discussion was attended by 20 foreign students and 12 students of sections. It was dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the great scientist and philosopher Abu Nasr al-Farabi and was conducted in English and Russian.
During the conversation, it was said that Al-Farabi is the founder of Arabic-speaking peripatetism, he created at the highest research level – as a philologist, physicist, chemist, music theorist and researcher of problems of social structure, that his works remain in the category of eternal human values not only for the Early Middle Ages and the European Renaissance, but also for the modern world. Students learned that Al-Farabi explains that good, being an attribute of essence, is enclosed in matter itself, and evil, unlike good, is connected with non-existence in the “Social and Ethical Treatises”.
They noted that the modern world would be more calm and humane if al-Farabi’s ideas were heard, understood and embodied in the modern world. At the end of the conversation, it was noted that the inclusion of the great scientist’s anniversary in the international calendar of memorable dates is only a small tribute to one of the prominent thinkers of the Golden Age of Islam, that today humanity will have to learn the lessons of Al-Farabi, return to the origins of great humanism in building a common future.
