Department of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation

Guidance:

Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sarkulova Zhanslu Nukinovna, has been working at the department since 1993. In 1999 she successfully defended her Candidate’s thesis, in 2005 – her doctoral thesis on the topic: “Anesthesia and intensive therapy of severe forms of widespread peritonitis”, after graduating in 2002 from the target doctoral studies. For the first time in Kazakhstan in 2008, she performed thrombolytic therapy for ischemic stroke together with Professor, Head of the Department of Neurology Kabdrakhmanova G.B. at the clinical base of BSMP in Aktobe. In 2008 she opened and heads the Aktobe branch of the Federation of Anesthesiologists-Reanimatologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2014, she became a Scholar of the Bolashak Programme of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2004 to 2020 – Chief freelance anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the Aktobe Region Department of Health Care. She is one of the first independent medical experts of Kazakhstan (HSE, Almaty, 2009). It is engaged in retraining and specialisation of anesthesiologists- resuscitators and nurse-anesthetists for the whole Western Kazakhstan, provides consultative assistance. She has the highest qualification category of anesthesiologist-reanimatologist. Sarkulova Zh.N. is the author of more than 240 printed works. Under the guidance of Zhanslu Nukinovna 2 candidates of medical sciences, 1 PhD and 2 Masters of Medicine were prepared.

History of creation:

The Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, first as an assistant professor course was established in 1978. The first head was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Zhanabaev Kzyl Zhexenovich. Kzyl Zhexenovich in 1969 graduated from the postgraduate course of the Central Order of Lenin Institute of Improvement (TsOLIU) in Moscow and in 1972 successfully defended his PhD thesis on the topic: “Changes in the volume of circulating blood after brain tumour removal operations”. For achieved successes in scientific, pedagogical, medical and social work he was awarded with the sign “Excellent Health Care Worker of the USSR”, by the Decree of the President of RK he was awarded with the medal “Astana”, and in 2007 he was awarded the academic title “Professor of ZKGMA named after Marat Ospanov”.Since 1974, after graduating from full-time postgraduate studies 1 MOLMI named after I. Sechenov Moscow and defence of a candidate’s thesis in the department began to work as an assistant candidate of medical sciences Bakhytzhan Utegaliev Bakhytzhan Utegalievich. There was the formation and strengthening of the course, equipping its educational, methodological, technical, material base. Much attention has been given to the training of the first anesthesia-resuscitation physicians through sub-residency, internship and clinical residency. Being one of the first anesthesiologists-reanimatologists, having devoted their labour years to anesthesiology and reanimatology, they made a great contribution to the development and establishment of the whole anesthesiology-reanimation service both in Aktobe region and all over Western Kazakhstan. More than one generation of specialists of this profile was trained by them. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Zhanabaev K.Zh. 1 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertations were defended by Sarkulova Zh..N. under the authorship of Zhanabaev K.Zh. and Uteguliev B.U. 6 monographs and 7 textbooks were published.

Purpose:

The aim of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology is to form and deepen the knowledge and skills of students to independently provide highly qualified anesthesiology and resuscitation medical care.

Activity:

The department trains 6th year interns in the direction of “General Medical Practice”.

For the first time in 2014, a three-year residency in the speciality “Anesthesiology and resuscitation of adults and children” was introduced.Over the past period, more than 131 residents graduated from the residency programme, who successfully work in Aktobe, Atyrau, Mangistau, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Kostanay regions, South Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and other regions, in Astana and Almaty. Currently, 94 residents are studying at the department.

The department conducts professional development cycles, training seminars and master classes on topical problems of modern clinical anesthesiology and reanimatology for anesthesiologists-reanimatologists of the Western region of Kazakhstan on the basis of the department and with trips to the regions.

The department actively carries out research work. Since 2018 the work on the scientific and technical project on the theme: “Development of science-based technologies to improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients with acute traumatic and vascular lesions of the brain”, in the framework of which were defended dissertation PhD Tokshylykova A.B., Master of Medicine Sarbaeva A.M. – on the theme “Choice of anesthesia method in surgical treatment of hemorrhagic strokes” and Master of Medicine Zhienalin R.N. – on the theme “Early enteral nutritional support in patients with acute cerebral strokes”. Scientific supervisor: Head of the Department, Professor Sarkulova Zh.N.

Residents are actively involved in research and development work and present their results at international and regional conferences and in periodical scientific publications. At present the work on the project “Development of modern scientific strategies for early prediction of disease outcomes in patients with severe traumatic injuries based on the study of endothelial glycocalyx” under the guidance of the head of the department Sarkulova Zh..N. is also in progress.

The chair annually organises scientific-practical conferences with international participation: “The First International Scientific-Practical Virtual Conference in Health Innovations & Research: Prognosis, Achievement, and Challenges”. DECEMBER, 15-16 2023; 06.04.2024- 07.04.2024.

The members of the department actively carry out clinical work.

The head of the department Professor Sarkulova Zh.N. daily rounds of patients at the clinical base – Department of Anesthesiology, Reanimation and Intensive Care in the Multidisciplinary Regional Hospital of Aktobe.

All the assistants of the department are on duty as anesthesiologists and resuscitators in various profile departments, including the Regional Perinatal Centre, Stroke Department, Regional Children’s Hospital, etc., and hold consultations to clarify the diagnosis and correct the treatment.

Teachers of the department speak English and have IELTS certificates of 3.5-4.0 level.
