Kurmanalina Madina Akdauletovna – head of the Department. She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Dentistry of Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University in 2005. After completing her internship, from 2006 to 2011 she worked as an assistant at the Department of therapeutic and surgical dentistry at this university. From 2012 to 2014 worked as an assistant at the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at JSC Astana Medical University. From 2014-2021 – Assistant at the Department of Internship and Postgraduate Education. In 2016 she defended her master’s thesis under the guidance of associate prof. Uraz R.M. on the topic: “The relationship between periodontal diseases and general somatic pathology among students of Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University.” In 2020, she defended her PhD doctoral dissertation on the topic “Clinical and radiological substantiation of the use of two-phase calcium phosphate biomaterial in the treatment of chronic apical periodontitis”, scientific advisor associate professor Uraz R.M., scientific consultants doctor of medical sciences, professor of Riga Stradins University Skagers A.A. and PhD Doctor of the Riga Technical University Ločs J. From 2021 to 2023 she worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Surgical and Pediatric Dentistry. Since April 2023, she has been the head of the department of therapeutic and prosthetic dentistry. Doctor of the highest qualification category. Has over 30 scientific publications.

History of creation

The Department of Dentistry was founded in 1999 and headed by Ph.D. associate professor Umbetyarov Bekim Aitzhanovich (head of the department) and assistants Akzharova G.S., Uraz R.M., Zhanabaeva G.B. and Taganiazova A.A.

The department taught such disciplines as therapeutic, surgical, prosthetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry and orthodontics.

Until 2010, the department functioned as part of the Department of Surgical and Therapeutic Dentistry under the leadership of Associate Professor Umbetyarov B.A. In 2010, the Department of Therapeutic and Prosthetic Dentistry was formed under the leadership of с.m.s. Zhanabaeva G.B. From 2017 to 2023, the department was headed by Ph.D. Zholdasova N.Zh. From 2023 to the present, the head of the department of therapeutic and orthopedic dentistry is PhD Kurmanalina M.A.

Training of highly qualified and competitive personnel.

Activities

Training at the department is conducted in Kazakh and Russian languages. Innovative teaching methods such as TVL, CBL, as well as teaching methods such as “Role Play”, “Brainstorming”, etc. are actively being introduced into the educational process. Problem-based and integrated lectures are regularly given. An academic mobility program for students and teachers is underway.

The department has therapeutic and prosthetic rooms, a phantom class on the technology of making dentures and a separate dental laboratory. All rooms are equipped with modern equipment and materials.

Achievements

Since the founding of the department, a student scientific class (SSC) has been functioning. Members of the class independently receive patients at the dental clinic. Every year they present the results of their research work, taking prizes at international, republican, and intra-university conferences.
